Roof Access Training

This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills required to enable employees to safely access flat roofs which offer a suitable working surface.

Please note that this course does not cover work systems for accessing fragile roofs.

Intended for

  • All persons who have to access flat roofs as part of their work.
  • Maintenance Staff, Installers, Supervisors, Managers, Self Employed, Safety Professionals, Architects, Engineers and other trades/prfessions who may require access to flat roofs.

Introduction

Falls from height are one of the biggest causes of death in the workplace and falls from roofs account for a high percentage of these accidents.

The characteristics of various commercially available fall protection systems are discussed and candidates are able to gain practical experience of each method.

Provides information on potential hazards with discussion of permanent and temporary methods of fall protection.

Course Content

Knowledge

  • Introduction to the use of personal fall protection
  • Relevant legislation and guidance
  • Assessment of the suitability of a roof for access, fragile surfaces and suitability of the working surface
  • Client Responsibilities

Key aspects of

  • Existing places of work (Walkways, Platforms, etc.)
  • Collective Protection (Temporary platforms, nets, scaffolds, guardrails, etc.)
  • Storage of materials and equipment
  • Radio Frequency Radiation hazards and detection (RF Hazards)
  • Characteristics and suitability of fixed, temporary and mobile anchors

Practical Skills

  • Correct identification and use of appropriate PPE in exposed situations
  • Correct fitting of harness and lanyard
  • Use of PPE anchors - fixed and portable
  • Use of restraint and positioning equipment
  • Use of permanent and temporary fixed fall protection systems - both horizontal and vertical
  • Use of commonly available RF hazard meter
  • Storage and use of ladders, including the common stabilising devices.

Assessment Method

  • Written test
  • Practical assessment of correct selection and use of equipment

Entry Requirements

  • Candidates should not have an aversion to heights
  • Self certified statement of reasonable fitness will be required prior to attendance

Course Duration

1 Day

Certification

On successful completion of this course, candidates will receive a training Certificate and a Photo ID Card.

Training Locations

Training can be provided at the clients' premises or at our state of the art training centre located at Crossreagh, Mullagh, Co. Cavan, Ireland.
