Ladder & Step Ladder Users Course

This course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary for the safe set up and use of portable ladders and step ladders.

Intended for

  • All persons who have a requirement to use ladders and step ladders in the course of their work.
  • Equipment users, Supervisors, Management and Safety Professionals.

Introduction

The requirement to provide training in the safe use of ladders and step ladders is often overlooked by employers and the self employed.

There are however increasing amounts of often serious and fatal accidents involving the incorrect use of ladders and step ladders involving untrained and inexperienced users.

Participants will learn the requirements for the selection of correct ladder type, pre-use checks, correct positioning/securing, safe ascending/descending and correct working procedures.

  • Ladders and their component parts
  • Ladder Types / Step Ladder Types
  • Planning of work at height
  • Selection of Correct Ladder type
  • Pre-Use Inspection
  • Safe set up/positioning and securing of ladders/step ladders
  • Safe Ascending and Descending
  • Safe Working Pratices from Ladders/Step Ladders
  • Storage, Handling and Maintenance of Ladders
  • Video

Practical Skills

  • Pre-use inspection of sample damaged ladders and step ladders
  • Inspection of work area for hazards
  • Correct ladder handling procedures
  • Set up, secure, ascend/descend a variety of ladder/step ladder types

Assessment Method

  • Written Test
  • Practical Test

Entry Requirements

  • A self certified statement of reasonable fitness will be required prior to attendance.
  • Participants should not have an aversion to working at height.

Course Duration

1 Day (6 Hours)

Certification

On successful completion of this course, candidates will receive a Training Certificate and Photo ID Card.

Training Locations

Training can be provided at the clients' premises or at our state of the art training centre located at Crossreagh, Mullagh, Co. Cavan, Ireland.
